In a field south of Marston Magna church are the remains of a rectangular moat and two fishponds. The moat dates from about 1300 and may have surrounded a grand  house belonging to the lord of the manor. Fishponds were a status symbol and a source of fresh fish and waterfowl.

The site is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
