This site is part of the South West Heritage Trust.
Our work in this area consists of play-based sessions for pre-school children and carers, encouraging engagement with our museum collections and stories. We are delivering this programme in partnership with the Somerset Libraries Service and local early years practitioners in areas of low cultural engagement. Through this activity, we invite participants to similar sessions at The Museum of Somerset and Somerset Rural Life Museum to maintain their engagement with local heritage.
From October 2023 – February 2024, we facilitated 34 of these sessions with the help of several local artists, including David Reakes, Julia McKenzie, Andrea Oake, and Sarah Butterworth. The video below shows an early years practitioner from one of the settings we visited explaining the impact and importance of the session we did with them.
We are continuing our work with early years children until the end of March 2027.
