The ‘Fascinating and Curious Museum’ encourages young children aged 0-5 years to explore and interact with heritage objects from the stores at the Somerset Heritage Centre. Objects featured in this touring museum are designed to inspire imagination and encourage creative activity such as: storytelling, building, imagining, talking, pretending, handling, interacting, sharing, and unpacking.
As part of the ‘Fascinating and Curious Museum’ experience, we worked with local spoken word artist David Reakes to produce a video, where he performs poetry written through his observations. The poem includes direct quotes from the young children we worked with and is written and performed through the eyes and experience of a small child entering the ‘Fascinating and Curious Museum’ for the first time. This experience gave us a great insight into the value that this work brings to young children.
