Preston School Yeovil

Introduction from lead teacher Maggie Purton

At the start of the project students were introduced to the Roman figurine of Capricorn.  Through teaching about the figure of Capricorn and discussion, students went on to consider the many themes and concepts this could encompass, choosing an area of interest to research further. Areas of interest on which to base their work, ranged from the zodiac, constellation, identity, and mythical beast to name a few. Further research into artists and designers, including looking at Balenciaga’s one seam coat led to creative responses, sampling in textiles and design work of their own, which they then developed into their ‘final piece.’ All work was created as part of students GCSE Art Textiles coursework.
