Introduction from lead teacher Jo Bradshaw
As part of our Roman topic, Year 4 studied the figurine of Capricorn. We looked at where it was discovered, why it was so important to the Romans and how it was linked to the zodiac. We noticed that Capricorn was two animals in one. This made us wonder what other animal would work together to be both beautiful, fearsome and intelligent.
In our sketch books we drew our own sketch of Capricorn from the figurine, and then designed our own mythical beast, experimenting with different combinations of creatures. Finally, we created our own flip flap drawing. First, we drew Capricorn in three parts and then on top drew our own mythical creature from our sketches. We experimented interchanging our own mythical beast with Capricorn, interchanging its head and tail to create new creatures.
