Weston on Film

Heritage Through the Lens

As part of our ongoing project work in Weston-super-Mare, we gave a talk at Weston Museum that explored the unique qualities of photography as a means of revealing heritage stories.

Photography, including self-portraiture, has been a large part of our projects to date, particularly with our first community project in Weston-super-Mare entitled ‘Weston Now’. This project culminated in a temporary community exhibition of assemblage artwork, portraits and stories: Weston Now  – South West Heritage Trust.

ReCollection: An Audiovisual Artwork

After coming to an agreement with colleagues at Weston Museum, we began working on our second community exhibition in Weston-super-Mare.

We worked with Somerset Film to capture drone footage of Weston beach and seafront, producing stunning visuals of Weston in the present day. To provide contrast, we gathered some British Pathe and Reuters footage, elevating the film and referencing the towns past.

ReCollection was an audiovisual artwork that featured vintage and contemporary footage of Weston-super-Mare, combined with the memories of local people. This evocative artwork evolved over time to include an expanding array of photographs, films and voices.

This installation was shown in the community gallery space at Weston Museum, from Wednesday 20th November 2024 – Friday 28th February 2025: ReCollection: An Audiovisual Artwork.
