Coming up: 23rd November 2026
Do you want to start a family history research project, but aren’t sure where to begin? Have you ever wondered about the history of your Somerset house, but are unsure where to look? Or perhaps you would like to know more about the collections we care for, and how you can access them?
As part of Explore Your Archive, Somerset Archives and Local Studies are running a free, drop-in surgery to introduce you to our searchroom, our resources and the ways it can help you with your research.
Come along to speak one-to-one with one of our archivists and receive specialist advice, or join a themed group also led by one of our archivists, to gain an introduction to topics such as family history or house history.
This drop-in event is a chance to ask questions about archives and local studies resources and about using the searchroom. The archives team will be on hand for one-to-one chats and to answer any questions you may have about carrying out your own research.
This event is FREE.
No need to book. Just drop in to the Somerset Heritage Centre between 10.00 am and 12 noon.

This event is part of Explore Your Archive Week 2026 (21 – 29 Nov). The Explore Your Archive campaign, from the Archives and Records Association, aims to encourage everyone to discover the fascinating resources held within their local archives.
