Travels
A major source of artistic inspiration throughout Reckitt’s life were the regular trips she took to Europe. Other than pauses during the Second World War and while caring for her mother in her later years, these travels were a regular feature of Reckitt’s life between 1956 and 1964, she visited Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Malta, Ireland and Greece, always travelling with friends and family.
Reckitt took extensive notes during her travels including details of the places visited and miles covered (she almost always drove from Golsoncott) – as well as the number of punctures fixed! The artworks inspired by the places Reckitt visited show the diversity of the imagery arising from her travels.
