FAQs

  • What types of events can I host?

Our venues are available for a wide range of events including meetings, training sessions, conferences, talks, receptions, filming and community gatherings. All events must be appropriate to a heritage setting and align with our charitable purpose. We reserve the right to decline bookings that may pose a risk to our buildings, collections or reputation.

  • How do I make a booking?

Please complete this form to get in touch and let us know what you would like to book. Our team will then get in touch with you to confirm availability and agree the details of your event. Final numbers and arrangements must be confirmed in advance of your event.

  • Do I need insurance?

Depending on the type of meeting or event being help, hirers may need to hold appropriate public liability insurance for their event and provide evidence in advance. You are responsible for your guests, contractors and any third parties working on your behalf during the hire period.

  • Can I use my own caterers or suppliers?

This depends on the venue. Some sites have preferred caterers, while others allow external suppliers with prior approval. External caterers and contractors must provide appropriate insurance and risk assessments and comply with our site rules. All arrangements must be agreed with our site teams in advance.

  • Are there restrictions because the venues are heritage sites?

Yes. Our buildings and collections are historic and irreplaceable. Decorations, equipment and signage must be agreed in advance and must not damage the fabric of the building. Naked flames, fireworks, sky lanterns, and unauthorised fixings are not permitted. All electrical equipment must have a valid PAT certificate. We also require compliance with fire safety and evacuation procedures.

  • What are my responsibilities on the day?

    You are responsible for:

    • Ensuring your event runs within the agreed times
    • Supervising guests and contractors
    • Complying with health and safety and licensing requirements
    • Leaving the venue clean and tidy
    • Removing all equipment and materials at the end of the hire period

Additional charges may apply for overruns, damage, or additional cleaning.

  • What happens if I need to cancel?

Cancellation terms will be set out in your agreement. Deposits are generally non- refundable, and cancellation charges may apply depending on how close to the event date you cancel. We recommend considering event insurance to protect against unforeseen circumstances.

  • Can alcohol or entertainment be provided?

This varies by venue; some of our sites are licensed and our team will be able to advise. All licensable activities must be agreed in advance and comply with the law. We reserve the right to suspend any activity that risks safety, licensing compliance or the wellbeing of guests.
