Weston Now

We began our ‘Weston Now’ project with the intention of creating an artwork centered around the modern community of Weston-super-Mare, encouraging participants to explore their heritage and how objects can tell stories. As our first project under the ‘Collections into Communities’ project area, we took our time planning and executing it, relying on a rang of skills within the team but also on partners to help us gain the community’s trust.

Inspired by the work of artist Joseph Cornell, we engaged with local visual artist Bev G Star to help participants create their own assemblage artwork. This artwork aimed to represent the people of Weston-super-Mare, alongside audio stories and photographic self-portraits, in both an online and physical exhibition.
