5 Games to Play in the Play Experience
Get ready to play at the Museum of Somerset this summer, where you’ll discover a variety of playful experiences. Get hands-on—create, explore, and rediscover familiar toys and games at this interactive exhibition experience. Share memories, spark your imagination, and enjoy playful moments for all ages.
Let Play Lead the Way
Journey through creative corners, gaming zones and dress-up areas – play your way through the exhibition.
Here’s 5 games that you’ll be able to play within the Experience:
1. Noughts and Crosses
This popular game is an engaging introduction to basic strategic thinking. It is a fun, quick game that nearly all ages can learn and enjoy. The game originated in ancient Egypt and evolved through Roman variations before becoming the game we all recognise in 19th-century Britain.
If you’re inspired by this game’s ancient roots look out for ‘Craft an Ancient Game‘, a fun family workshop.

2. Nintendo – Mario Kart
Jump into the fast-paced world of Mario Kart, one of Nintendo’s most iconic party games. It’s easy to pick up and impossible to put down. Choose your favourite character and speed through the tracks of the Mushroom Kingdom, Bowser’s Castle or Donut Plains.

3. Dressing Up
Dress up, role play and strike a selfie in front of the costume wall. Be inspired by the collections and make up your own story. Where will you go and who will you see on your adventure? Try becoming an astronaut, or a woodland fairy.

4. Hula Hoop
Hula Hooping has been used in play and dance for thousands of years – Egyptians used them for play, Native Americans in storytelling performances, and ancient Greeks for fitness. Hula Hooping is both a fun physical activity and a highly rewarding challenge – not just for the kids.

5. Sound Game
Play our fun sound game and have a giggle at the unexpected noises made by household objects! Press the item and be surprised by the noise it makes, then have fun making your own funny-sound-music. Enjoy the curious difference between what you see and what you hear.

Reconnect with the kind of play that brings people together. Step inside Somerset at Play and wander through a room built for fun.
