Make a simple game to take home inspired by the games of old. Discover games such as Ur, Hnefatafl, Nine Men’s Morris and Chess on replica boards. We’ll guide you through the rules and help you game like an ancient.

Woodworking Workshop for Young People

Under the guidance of experimental archaeologist and wood worker, Marc Cox, learn how to safely cleave, carve and shape green timber. You’ll use a range of hand tools to turn a log into a finished, complete board game.

Spending time in and around the Anglo Saxon Hall, we’ll talk about how people in the past made things out of wood; the tools, techniques and finished products.

Performance: Arthurian Legends

Join our friends from Rattlebox Theatre around the fire in the Great Mead Hall for the Legends of King Arthur. You’ll hear a selection of evocative tales about King Arthur and his court. Some well known, and others less known tales, but all brought vividly to life! These stories capture the magic, excitement and pathos of Britain’s “Once and future king”.
