Enjoy family-friendly activities inspired by life in Roman Britain and celebrate the arrival of the Ilminster Ring, a remarkable Roman treasure dating back to around AD 297, and see it on display at the museum for the very first time.

Come and celebrate the arrival of one of Somerset’s newest Roman treasures and discover what life was like 2,000 years ago.

Step back into Roman Somerset this half term and enjoy a day packed with family-friendly activities inspired by life in Roman Britain. Make your own Roman-style ring, discover what it was like to be a Roman soldier, and uncover fascinating stories from the Roman world.

Just drop in to enjoy these activities on Saturday 24, Tuesday 27 and Thursday 29 from 10.00 am – 5.00 pm (unless stated otherwise.)

✨Fun fact: The carved gemstone on top of a Roman ring is called an intaglio, Romans loved decorating their rings with them and that’s what you will be designing!

What To Expect:

Whether you’re a budding archaeologist or simply curious about Roman history, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy.

• Make your own Roman ring 
• Join a Roman drill session at 11.00 am, 12.30 pm, 2.00 pm and 3.30 pm
• Meet a Roman and handle real Roman artefacts
• Dress up in a toga
• Create a portrait in our Mosaic Me activity inspired by the famous Low Ham Mosaic
• Design your own Roman mosaic
• Take on our giant chariot race game
• Discover your Roman name with our name generator
• Complete the Jewellery Trail throughout the museum
