This summer, The Museum of Somerset is buzzing with curiosity and creativity thanks to its latest exhibition with Events of Wonder. Wow! Amazing Science in Children’s Books, invites visitors of all ages to explore amazing science through the vibrant lens of children’s literature illustrations.
For this exhibition beloved author and illustrator Marcia Williams was especially commissioned to create bespoke illustrations. You’ll spot these illustrations on the walls introducing each theme and guiding visitors – young and old – through the gallery.

Who is Marcia Williams?
Marcia is a prize-winning author and illustrator who’s published over 30 brilliant books! You might have seen her illustrations in stories like:, Archie’s War, Greek Myths and Mr William Shakespeare’s Plays. Her books are full of humour, facts, and colourful characters that make learning fun. Marcia has won lots of awards for her work, like the UKLA Children’s Book Award and The English 4–11 Picture Book Award. She’s also been invited to speak at book festivals and schools all over the country, where she shares how she comes up with her ideas and draws her characters.
