Join Tom Mayberry, retired Chief Executive of the South West Heritage Trust, as he discusses his career working in Somerset’s archives and heritage.

Tom will share memories from across his long career, introducing some of the remarkable characters who shaped the Somerset Record Office from the 1930s onwards — including a refugee from Hitler’s Germany.

He’ll reflect on his own connection with the Record Office, beginning with his very first visit with his father over 60 years ago, and explore some of the extraordinary documents preserved in its vast collections. Tom will also talk about the long, determined journey that led to the creation of the Somerset Heritage Centre, and what it has meant for preserving the county’s past.
