Experience storytelling Saxon-style with a performance of Beowulf around the fire in the longhall.

 Coming up:  23rd July 2026

Back by popular demand after three sell-out performances, storyteller Lizzie Bryant returns for another dynamic and engaging retelling of Beowulf.

Experience storytelling Saxon-style with a performance of Beowulf, the oldest story in the English language. Gather around the fire, step back into a Saxon world and experience the enduring tale of Beowulf, hero of men and the monsters that brought him fame. It’s a tale of blood feuds and fury that’s been told for a thousand years or more.

Lizzie’s gripping performance of this epic old English poem is presented in (mostly!) modern English prose in two equal parts with an interval and a glass of local apple juice, with time for Q&As at the end.

The evening takes place at Avalon Archaeology where history is brought to life through replica historic buildings including a Saxon longhall and a Roman villa.
