Dunkeswell Abbey Open Day
On Saturday 7 May, our team from the Devon Heritage Centre went up to Dunkeswell Abbey Church for a community outreach day. Showing its unique history, we shared the story of the Simcoe sisters with the public through new archival material. Our stall was filled with documents telling the history of the church as well as early designs for its interior. These ranged from colourful designs for the stained-glass windows to pictures taken of its exterior in the 1960’s. Public interest was large, and it was lovely to hear public memories of the church all contributing to its long-lasting legacy within the community. It was a lovely day out in the sunshine working with Heritage Arts People to showcase the beauty of Dunkeswell Abbey.
Thank you to everyone who came to see us, discussed the church and learned a little bit more about this treasure of Devon.
