{"id":98,"date":"2018-06-27T12:20:52","date_gmt":"2018-06-27T11:20:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/somerset-archives.swht.wpengine.com\/?page_id=98"},"modified":"2024-07-05T08:12:53","modified_gmt":"2024-07-05T07:12:53","slug":"research","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/swheritage.org.uk\/somerset-archives\/services\/research\/","title":{"rendered":"Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Our Research and Copying Request Service is experiencing very high demand, please be aware of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Priority will continue to be given to urgent requests, such as imminent legal and business requirements<\/li>\n<li>All requests are strictly limited to no more than two hours of work, please do not submit a request for more than two hours as we will have to return your request<\/li>\n<li>Requests may take around ten to twelve weeks to complete due to very high demand<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Types of Research<\/h2>\n<p>We can carry out research using the archives and other resources at the Somerset Heritage Centre. \u00a0We handle all sorts of enquiries from family history and house history to rights of way disputes and research for television programmes. \u00a0However, we cannot research in archives held elsewhere or give legal advice.<\/p>\n<h2>Costs of Research<\/h2>\n<p>We charge by the time the work takes, rather than per enquiry or per document. Please allow for a reasonable amount of research time to answer all of your questions, and contact us for an estimate if unsure. \u00a0A good general guide is to allow for an hour&#8217;s research &#8211; if your enquiry takes less time than this, we will charge you less accordingly. Please see our <a href=\"https:\/\/somerset-cat.swheritage.org.uk\/researchGuides\/researchService\">Research Service Form and Leaflet<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n<h2>Information We Need From You<\/h2>\n<p>All research requests must be sent using our <a href=\"https:\/\/somerset-cat.swheritage.org.uk\/researchGuides\/researchService\">Research and Copying Request Form<\/a>. To speed up your enquiry, please specify as clearly and precisely as possible the information that you are seeking, and enclose any relevant information which might assist us. Please enclose an accurate map if your enquiry concerns a house or land.<\/p>\n<h2>Ordering Copies of Documents<\/h2>\n<p>Please provide the exact references for the documents if known. Digital images will be provided as jpgs unless permission for publication has been granted and higher resolution images are required. We are unable to provide images as pdfs. If paper copies are required, please contact us prior to submitting your request to discuss if this will be possible.<\/p>\n<h2>Receiving Your Research<\/h2>\n<p>\u200bEnquiries are dealt with in the order that we receive them. Wait times may be up to 12 weeks depending on the volume of enquiries received. In exceptional circumstances we can give priority to your enquiry, e.g. when a deadline has been imposed on you at short notice. You will need to obtain permission in writing from the South West Heritage Trust before publishing any copies that we supply to you. This includes uploading to the internet.
