Coming up:  12th July 2019

Join curator Amal Khreisheh to hear the story of the Somerset man who created the famous ‘Your Country Needs You’ poster, showing Lord Kitchener, Secretary of State for War, pointing directly at the viewer and seeking recruits for the British Army. The image has taken on a life of its own, and few people know the story of its creator, Alfred Leete. He was a prolific graphic artist who produced advertising campaigns for companies including the London Underground and Younger’s Ale. He was once described as ‘the funniest man in the world’ and his cartoons gently capture the comedy of everyday life and politics. This talk will offer a fascinating insight into Leete’s life and work.

The talk will be followed by tea and cake.
