{"id":1090,"date":"2024-04-03T08:41:49","date_gmt":"2024-04-03T07:41:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/swheritage.org.uk\/devon-archives\/?page_id=1090"},"modified":"2025-06-10T09:58:07","modified_gmt":"2025-06-10T08:58:07","slug":"visiting-barnstaple","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/swheritage.org.uk\/devon-archives\/visit\/visiting-barnstaple\/","title":{"rendered":"Visiting Barnstaple"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Introduction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The North Devon Record Office provides a full archive service to the north of the county and holds records relating to the area of the Archdeaconry of Barnstaple and of North Devon and Torridge District Councils.<\/p>\n<p>In this section you\u2019ll find information about visiting\u00a0The North Devon Record Office and how to access its research resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Opening Times<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The North Devon Record Office is open for research visits and visitors and visitors are strongly encouraged to book in advance.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The opening days are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.<\/li>\n<li>There are two bookable sessions each day. These are from from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm and 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm.<\/li>\n<li>Documents will be produced between 10.00 am-12 noon and 2.00 pm-4.00 pm. Documents should be returned 10 minutes prior to the end of each session.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Readers\u2019 Tickets<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We issue South West Heritage Trust readers\u2019 tickets which are valid for four years. If you have not visited us before, please bring some form of identification containing your name, current address and signature (for example a driving licence, utility bill and other ID with signature) so we can issue you with one of our readers\u2019 tickets.<\/p>\n<p>\u200bSouth West Heritage Trust readers\u2019 tickets are valid at Devon Heritage Centre, Somerset Heritage Centre, North Devon Record Office and the North Somerset archive service.<\/p>\n<p>\u200bPlease be aware that we do not accept passports, tickets from The National Archives or library cards.
